Kiwanis Kid's KornerA Three Rivers Kiwanis Sponsored Project
During the summer of 2002, the Milo Free Public Library had a section of their building renovated into a Children's section. The cozy carpeted area looked like a wonderful place to invite a group of children to have a story read to them, so The Three Rivers Kiwanis funded the Kiwanis Kids Korner.
From the first meeting on that Wednesday in September, the children's section was too small..over 40 children trooped down from the school to participate. The group enjoyed stories, a snack and a craft project…and the program grew and became more popular. Children in grades K-3 are acquainted with library procedures and rules. We at Kiwanis hope to instill a lifetime love of books and reading into these young minds.
With help from Key Club members the children are escorted the ¼ mile from the elementary school and are eager and excited upon their arrival at the library. The group meets in the basement, which houses the reference collection. More than 30 kids participate each week. Kiwanis would like to acknowledge the two librarians, Judy McDougall and Pam Flanagan, for their help and expertise.
