January 7, 2009

Milo - There were 7 members in attendance at Sandee’s Restaurant. We had an inter-club from Dover-Foxcroft, including our Lt. Governor, Gary Nelson. Josh and Camille were present from the Key Club.
Eben DeWitt led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Jan Barton offered the Morning Prayer, and Jim Lord provided the Thought for the Day. Bobby Ellison has a birthday this week on the 8th. Communications received was an email from Gary encouraging membership drives and Jim Lord has offered a challenge to the Dover club to get 5 new members.
We had twelve Happy/Sad dollars this week-Gary happy to have a membership drive and Jim for a successful membership drive; Laurel for positive test results and for Jetter; Doc’s invitation to go on the Bermuda Cruise; and George thanks to the secretary for Builders Club renewal. Camille expressed concern for Jillian Lumbra and asked for prayers for her and her family. We would also like to keep Lee Leeman in our thoughts and prayers.
February 10th the Dover club will have an evening social at Abel’s Blood from 6-9 pm for $15.00 a person. There will not be a morning meeting. Contact George Barton if you would like to make a reservation for the evening out, spouses/partners welcomed. Josh will be delivering the winterization kits to the Town Office for families that needed them.
Our speaker today was Gene Staffiere, from the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is a National Health Agency that’s mission is to prevent premature births and birth defects. Of the 500,000 babies born premature in the United States, 1500 are born in Maine. This is an increase of 39% since 1985.
The March of Dimes raises funds to support research and raise public awareness in an effort to prevent premature births and birth defects. The first Sunday in May is the March for Babies and a new drive right now is to collect a Mile of Dimes, $10,256 dollars. The Key Club is a supporter of the March of Dimes and will be working with the agency to support the Mile of Dimes program. We would like to thank Gene for speaking today and look forward to receiving more information on how Key Club and Kiwanis can support the March of Dimes.
Meeting Adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Heidi Finson
