Lt. Governor/Business
Meeting
There were 15 members in attendance at
the morning meeting at Sandee’s Restaurant. We also had an
inter-club from Dexter and Dover-Foxcroft join us for the
Lt. Governors visit today. Josh, Camile, and
Stephanie from Key Club and Jessica from the Builders
Club were present. Eben led us in the
Pledge of Allegiance, Edwin offered the Prayer, and Frank
provided a Thought for the Day. Ethelyn Treworgy’s
birthday is November 17th.
There was a total of $23.00 Happy/Sad
Dollars-many happy dollars for a very successful
Veteran’s Day Dinner, approximately 180 served;
appreciation of Key Club volunteers; up-coming Jamboree;
awesome performance of the students and Dakota’s song
tribute to the veterans; Val’s excellent food; excellent
Veteran’s programs at the elementary schools; and, Hoyt’s
twin granddaughters. Sadness was expressed
for the recent loss of individuals from
Dover.
Laurel shared that the Secret Santa 50/50
raffle has approximately $1300.00 in ticket sales at this
time. She
has also opened an account to be used for this annual
fund raising event. Nancy Treadwell also
sent 21 pairs of mittens for the Secret Santa
gifts.
Interclub-Thursday an interclub will
attend the Guilford meeting and next Tuesday there will
be an interclub to Greenville. Bonnie
reported that 20 children’s names have been identified so
far for the Secret Santa program, but we expect many more
as the forms are collected. A press release will be
out this week and area groups will be adopting children
and families to help with Christmas gifts. November
19th program will be a speaker from
Hospice.
Ethelyn reports that the Jamboree plan
is progressing. Hotdogs and chili will
be served along with desserts. Cathy will be
soliciting bars from members. Secret Santa 50/50
tickets will be sold at the event. A donations jar will be
at the door with a ticket per dollar donation to be drawn
for door prizes. All proceeds will be
donated to the Secret Santa fund.
RIF book distributions will take place
at the Milo and LaGrange Elementary schools this
week.
Preschool distributions will take place later this
month.
Volunteer readers are needed at each
distribution.
The board approved on November
6th a donation to Kiwanis International for
$50.00 and a $50.00 donation to the Lt. Governor’s fund
to off set costs. Today our speaker is
our Lt. Governor, Gary Nelson.
Lt. Governor Gary Nelson shared his
pleasure at seeing so many Key Club members
participating, as they are the future of the
Kiwanians. This is also the
official visit of the Lt. Governor to our
club. The
focus of Kiwanis this year is Growth with a goal of at
least one to two members per club. The Fall Conference in
Rockport on November 22nd will focus on growth
and encouraging the support of new club
development.
More participation of the general membership in Kiwanis
would also be beneficial for existing
clubs.
The Kiwanis Foundation of New England
maintains KPTI and the Gerrish Registry and they would
like to expand nationwide with a Strive for Five to
increase available funds. A number of fund
raising activities already are in place to support the
foundation, such as Shaw’s receipts for percent
donations, 10-K walks for kids, and a 2009 Gerrish End
All Golf Tournament is planned for the
spring.
The Lt. Governor took the opportunity
to answer questions from club members on starting new K
clubs and other potential food chain receipt
donations.
We would like to thank our Lt. Governor, Gary Nelson, for
speaking at our meeting today.
Meeting
adjourned.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Heidi Finson,
Secretary
