Three Rivers Kiwanis, Milo-Brownville |
Milo, Maine--March 11, 2009--There were 14 members present for
the morning meeting at Sandee’s Restaurant on Wednesday
morning. We had an interclub from Dover with five members in
attendance. Our guest today is Crystal Macomber.
Eben led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Herbie offered the
Morning Prayer, and Jim Lord provided the Thought for the Day.
Mike Harris has a birthday on March 12th and the Lougees have
an anniversary on March 16th.
The GFWC Cosmopolitan and Miosac Club have sent us an
invitation to the annual High School art Contest at the Center
Theater in Dover-Foxcroft on March 29th from 2-4 pm. Admission
is free and refreshments will be served. Patty Grillo has also
sent a letter of request for support of the Life Skills program
and the board will address online. We also have a request from
Jim Macomber to support a workshop on resources available in
the greater Piscataquis region for unemployed, under-employed,
and the general public. A foreclosure specialist will also be
present. The board will also address this online. George will
send the information to board members.
Ethelyn is working on an interclub with Orono on Tuesday March
17th at the Black Bear Inn. Dixie Land music will be the
program. We could use an additional visitor to the Builders
Club meetings on Monday mornings.
RIF preschool distributions were successful last week. Jan will
read at Head Start this week and will read at the Elementary
school in Lagrange on Friday. Heidi has talked to Chris Beres
at Brownville Elementary and they did not participate in the
RIF program this year and have forfeited their grant support.
They were not able to find a school staff person to fulfill the
grant requirements.
We had sixteen Happy/Sad Dollar: Camille is happy to be
President elect of Key Club; Edwin and Eben happy to read
Camille’s secretary’s reports; Brian recognized Georges
leadership skills on Dover committees; Laurel has a sad dollar
for a co-worker passing away; Val behaved herself at a town
meeting; Jim Lord would like to funnel money to new president;
and, George is thankful for business meeting minutes.
Bob Lee will be our speaker on March 18th and Terry Knowles on
March 25th.
The Key Club is asking for volunteers to join the MS Walk Team
on April 25th. Bobby has brochures and more information on the
event that his daughter Tammy spoke on recently. The Builders
Club will be taking on the Easter Egg Hunt, an event previously
sponsored by the Legion. Camille will check with the freshman
class on supporting this event.
The library after school Reading program will start on April
8th and we will need volunteers. Don, Frank, Cathy, Heidi, and
Val will be helping with this project. We can use other
volunteers to assist with this 8-week program.
The Variety Show is scheduled for May 8th. We will need
volunteers for tickets and refreshments at that time. We also
need a chairperson to solicit food for the refreshment sales.
Jim M. will take care of advertising.
Selectmen support the Town Hall Kitchen Renovation project.
There was a question about the suppression system for gas vs.
electric stoves. Heidi found that the suppression system would
not differ. More information is being gathered on costs.
Ethelyn has emailed members a letter requesting that members
contact her or George by April 15th if they are interested in
filling a position next year. She has also met with schools and
we will not be progressing with a K-Kids club at this time in
the elementary schools.
Sherry Conley has received calendar information and will be
getting it to the club. Laurel will head up sales but we need
someone to enter the data when the sales are complete in June.
Sherry will make herself available to show a member how to do
this. This is a successful fund raiser each year. Please let
George know if you would like to volunteer for this.
The annual meeting will take place on May 6th after three weeks
of announcing the slate of officers.
The canoe race will be June 20th.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Heidi Finson, Secretary
