Regular Morning Meeting

Sandee's in Milo, Maine USA - January 28, 2009 - There were sixteen members in attendance at the regular morning meeting at Sandee’s Restaurant. We had an Orono/Oldtown inter-club visiting today with four members. We also had a Dover-Foxcroft inter-club present with five members, including the Lt. Governor, Gary Nelson. Josh, Camille, Stephanie, and Val made a Key inter-club. Jim Macomber’s daughter, Crystal was also a visitor.
Eben DeWitt led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Edwin Treworgy led us in the Morning Prayer, and Jim Lord provided a Thought for the Day. There are no birthdays or anniversaries this week but Herbie has one coming up in February.
The secretary has received the Builders Club Renewal Kit and this needs to go to Mrs. Bousquet. George is pursuing more information for K-Kids. Jim has the website up and running and is requesting information from committee chairpersons to post on the site. Edwin informed us that the Town Hall account was able to purchase a sound mixer to use at events. Edwin would also like to apply for a grant to renovate the town hall kitchen up to fire code. His request will be placed on the board agenda for February. Bobby is working with Mike Sproul on a date for the canoe race and the Variety Show will take place in May, more information will be coming. Josh has sent the Key Club dues and is awaiting confirmation of receipt. The date for the yearly auction is also being explored.
We had sixteen dollars in Happy/Sad dollars: Crystal is happy to be a cheerleader; Jim Macomber informed us of a Keep Me Warm event at the Center Theater on the 31st; Edwin would like to see more suppers at the Town Hall on Sundays and at the Jamborees; sad to see Troy Richards returning to Afghanistan; Dick Graves reports that the Legion is having more suppers to supplement their Bingo fund raising; Jim Lord thanks everyone for their support at he runs for selectman position; Red Sox tickets; happy to see the visiting inter-clubs; Ethelyn reports that Edwin is everyone’s friend on Face Book and the Key Club is taking orders for Super Bowl subs.
Gary Nelson, Lt. Governor, stepped in for our speaker who was not able to make it this morning. The Bermuda cruise is still taking reservations for May and requires a $250 deposit. There is also a March 6-7 Mid-winter Conference Massachusetts and we are all encouraged to try and attend at least one conference in order to meet new people and gather new ideas and information from other Kiwanians. The New England and International websites have information available on conference options. The International Convention is in Nashville this year from June 25-28.
The Division 2 Council/Secretary Training meeting has been changed to February 21st at the Dexter Legion with lunch for about $5. This meeting is open to all members. Gary encouraged the Key Club to forward him information on their projects and he will pass it on the Governor. A Key Leader event is coming up that is open to all students and Josh will be sharing that information with them.
We would like to thank the Lt. Governor for speaking at our meeting today.
