December Business Meeting
Three Rivers Kiwanis
There were thirteen members in attendance at the morning
meeting at Sandee’s Restaurant on Wednesday morning. We had
three members of the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis present today.
Josh, Camille, Spencer, and Stephanie from the Key Club were
also present. George introduced his guest, Dennis Green, a
visitor and potential member.
Eben DeWitt led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Edwin
Treworgy offered the Morning Prayer. Jim Lord provided the
Thought for the Day. Birthdays this week are Sarah Gahagan,
Heidi Finson, and Neil Hamlin.
We had sixteen Happy/Sad dollars-enjoying Terrific Kids
Assembly; grateful for Toys for Tots; happy to see Dennis Green
here and a wonderful Key Club; safe travel; active Garden Club;
Camille was happy to see so many Kiwanians at their meeting,
six in all; Kiwanis support of Key Club; thanks Bonnie for your
work on the Secret Santa project; thank you Key Club for the
gorgeous Christmas tree at the gazebo; Key Club’s professional
conducting of their morning meetings; George is happy to be the
president; and, Edwin reminds us that Christmas is just one of
many times a year to give to others and shared an idea about
birthday gifts to be discussed further.
Eben asked the club the six “Is your club great?” questions
presented by Don Canaday, President of Kiwanis
International:
1. Is your club friendly to all its members?
2. Is your club fun?
3. Does your club have really good fellowship?
4. Does your club have consistently strong programs?
5. Does your club enhance networking opportunities?
6. Does your club provide new member orientation?
We all answered a strong yes to all the questions with the
exception
that we could improve on our new member orientation.
Next week there will be an interclub going to Dover-Foxcroft’s
Tuesday morning meeting. Members were reminded to attend the
Builders and Key Club meetings, Mondays and Thursdays. George
called a Board meeting following this meeting to vote on new
members.
Josh has arranged for the program next week and Jim Macomber
will bring in a laptop and projector for the December 24th
program.
Bonnie reported on the Secret Santa project. The presents have
been purchased and today the first 20 families will pick up
their children’s gifts. Key Club will be helping with the gifts
and Jim Macomber was able to get a donation from the Toys for
Tots program. There were a total of 65 families with 168
children served this year. Bonnie reported on the great joy and
thankfulness she has experienced from families receiving gifts
this year.
Jim Lord reports that the weatherization kits are going along
well thanks to the Key Club and Frank. Jim will also be looking
into the feasibility of assisting with other
weatherization/heating needs in the fall of 2009.
George and Jan attended the Fall Conference in November where
the emphasis is on growth of new clubs. Jan completed the CLE
training. Members discussed starting a K-Kids Club in the
elementary schools and George will explore this further. George
also shared the Bringing Up Grades (BUGS) program. BUGS
emphasis is on recognizing and supporting students for
improving their grades. Josh also shared that Key Club has also
been looking at how to recognize students for making
improvements in their grades. Members discussed academic
recognition and possible ways for Kiwanians to support
students. George will also be discussing this with the
elementary schools before taking any further action.
George reported on board actions at the December 4th
meeting:
• Kiwanis One Day project will be the Brownville River Walk
Clean-up and Jan Barton volunteered to chair this
committee.
• Voted to pay the renewal fee for the Builders Club.
• Appropriated $100.00 for Camp Sunshine.

• Office vacancies need to be filled by May of 2009;

Edwin offered to make $500.00 worth of toys for Key Club to
sell to
raise money to start a K-Club, if the Key Club would like to be
a co-sponsor. George will explore the interest of the
elementary schools before we proceed, as there support is
needed.
Key Club shut-in will be December 19, 6:30 p.m to 6:30 a.m. at
the High School. Members are invited to visit and they promise
to let you out.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Heidi
